Ep 200: D&C 96 – Section 124, Part 3
If you build a temple, they will come. *channels Field of Dreams*
Baptism for the dead is mentioned for the first time! It has to be done, but only AFTER the Nauvoo Temple is built, so give us all your resources to build that before we build houses for our own. No specific timeline, god understands that bad people may try to stop the Saints, don’t worry about it.

With zinc being, apparently, the 24th most common element in the earth’s crust, and currently trading at $3,331 per ton, about half the price of copper, I guess I was surprised to see the Lord listing it among the “precious things of the earth”. But only a fool would scoff at humble zinc, a useful metal indeed, and one I can’t imagine a world without.

D&C 124:49, in which God graciously withdraws any commandments that can’t be completed, like building a temple, due to hindrance from enemies, is a wonderful loophole, you’re right. It also flies directly in the face of one of the Book of Mormon’s most beloved and oft-quoted verses:
“And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.” 1 Nephi 3:7
I always preferred D&C 124’s more reasonable take on things, myself.
