I think we finally come to the end of the pointless family drama, and none of it seemed to have a point. But then we get a real treat when Moroni apologizes to god for writing such a terrible book! But don’t worry, god tells him that anyone that mocks it is a fool (which I guess makes Moroni a fool tool since he was the first to admit how bad it was).

Ether 12 was referring to the Lehi and Nephi who were Heleman’s sons in the Book of Helaman, not to the father and son in the Book of Nephi.

As far as what spiritual message do TBMs get from chapters like Ether 11, its part of the same “Pride Cycle” message over and over again: God blesses people, the people prosper, the people become prideful, God smites the people, the people become humble and turn to God, God blesses people, etc. TBMs are locked in to the idea that God blesses obedience and curses disobedience as part of this life.

Not just that God blesses obedience, but God blesses obedience with prosperity. The more righteous you are, the more money you’ll have!

Found the podcast a few months ago and have been binge listening ever since. I just caught up and have to say I love it so far. I’m amazed at how much I missed when I was a TBM reading this book. I honestly think I’ve gotten more out of this than 4 years of seminary and years and years of Sunday school etc. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

David, you made a comment at some point about how the Book of Ether is getting boring. Don’t worry it goes out with a bang – you’re in for some good stuff shortly. Not wooden-submarine good, but close.
